Ugly Subjects

I was taking a picture of Grandpa A yesterday from my Mom's kitchen. She thought I was taking pictures of her and said, "Don't take pictures of ugly people." I responded, "I'm not taking pictures of YOU, I'm taking pictures of Grandpa..." I didn't even realized I had dissed her until everyone started laughing....

Virus?

I have this 'friend' who has a certain problem...Is there a virus going around Utah that causes a person to feel achey, physically drained, and to have diarrhea for several days?

Abby's Joke

There are two stories you need to know to understand this joke....

The first is that when we took Abby out for her Birthday Dinner to Applebees the other day, she told us a funny joke. Knock Knock, Who's there?, Interrupting Cow, Interrupting c-----, Moo!!!

The second story is that I worked until 7 last night and then we took the kids to the movie Madagascar 2. It was Abby's birthday a few days ago so we went to Walmart afterwards to spend her bday money. We were there about 30 minutes. I was looking at magazines, then went to find Melissa. We were all standing by the apples and it seemed that we were just standing there--so I said, "Let's go." Melissa got very annoyed at me, so I left with Miranda rather than listen to the griping and feeling annoyed that we were just standing around (luckily had a second car as I had just left work).

So, this morning, Abby goes up to Melissa and says, "Knock Knock"
"Who's There?"
"Interrupting Ryan"
"Interrupting Ry---"
"CAn we go yet, shopping is boring!!!"

SUPRSTD

I just read Native Minnow's post on the license plate EATMEAT. It reminded me of a car in California with the license plate:

SUPRSTD

I am sure he was thinking Super Stud, but all I could think about was a Valtrex-resistant case of genital herpes. :)

I tried to get a photo, but he was speeding and then turned off an exit before we could catch up.

New Tradition...

So, A*** turned 8 yesterday. I felt bad because both my wife and I had to work late. I hadn't made her a cake, so on the way home, I picked up an entire boxful of assorted doughnuts and chocolate ice cream. I took it home, put 8 candles in between the doughnuts and we sang happy birthday. :) A*** loved it. And the doughnuts actually get eaten the next day unlike cake which usually goes to waste.

For breakfast, I did get up and make her french toast. I took a big cookie cutter in the shape of a heart and cut a heart out of the toast. She thought that was neat too. :)

I guess you could say that the economy is tanking when you are willing to work on Sunday afternoon for less than $10 an hour. :)

Senator Abby

So Abby was asking me today if she could become president of the United States. I told her if she worked hard in school, kept out of trouble, and wanted to, maybe she could be. I also told her it was a very stressful job and a job I would never want to have. She then said that maybe she would be a Senator. She said that if she were to become a senator, she would make a new law that candy would taste just as good as ever, but it would have to be healthy. :)

Rumors...

My 7-year old kept telling us that she did not want Obama to win. We asked her why not? She was convinced that if Obama won, he was going to change the flag. We kept trying to convince her that he will not, but she is set in her belief. :)

I just thought I would start a new rumor about Obama and see if it will sweep the world through those lame email that are forwarded by every dimwit in America

Here is the rumor: I heard that Obama and his wife are planning on painting the white house black...shocking...pass the word. :)

A man's race is acceptable...but his religion? His sexuality?

Last night I was struck by the irony that America has made it to a place where an African American can become president, but those of certain religious faiths cannot...I was thinking back on the early race and how I was amazed during Mitt Romney's campaign how many people said they would not vote for a Mormon.

I was also just reading something about Proposition 8 and think it is interesting that the American nation would never elect a known homosexual to the highest office of the executive branch.

I also doubt that America as a whole is willing to elect a woman to the presidency...

I don't think America has come as far as everyone thinks when it comes to equality...though it is a start...

Let it snow...

We woke up this morning to a huge snowstorm. It took me 40 minutes to drive from my house to the freeway. Then another 40 minutes to get to Salt Lake for my appointment. I called ahead to let them know I would be late. When I got there, the person I was supposed to test couldn't be located for over 30 minutes...She finally came out with her kids, took one to daycare, but the older one wasn't able to go to daycare because she had not gotten him over there soon enough. So instead, he sat during the entire testing period wandering off, interrupting, being loud, etc. The woman suffers from developmental disabilities so she has a hard enough time answering questions, but it was even worse with the distractions.

While there, I overheard a conversation an African-American woman was having with someone about Barack Obama's win. Although she lives in Salt Lake, she is still registered in New York City. She didn't have much money, but still scraped enough money together to fly to New York, go vote, and come home. I thought that was true devotion to Obama's cause. He definitely was able to energize and inspire his base. Again, I hope he is able to come through and deliver on the economy and alternate energy.

Oh well...

I am disappointed that John McCain didn't win, though I really didn't expect him to. I just hope that Obama can live up to the promises he made and that he wasn't just pandering to the public to get elected. I recognize that this is an historic election, especially given that an African-American was voted into the top office of the land. I just wish it were a man who had given more service to his country, who had a longer political record to judge him by, and who wasn't such an 'unknown factor.' From what I have observed, Obama is a good man with good intentions, but what is scary to me is that no one really knows where he stands on issues. All we know is what he has told us about himself.

One thing that has always bothered me in life is a person who takes leadership upon him/herself and decides that he/she is the person for the job--especially when that person has little to no experience. I feel that this is what Obama did in this election. He went from being a virtual unknown a few years ago to leading the free world. It would be like some random guy deciding one day that he wanted to be president and within 3 years it becoming a reality. I guess in reality, it is the American people that supported him in his decision and who chose him to be their next president, but it still bothers me that he is just some random guy who decided he should be president and now he is...

I hope he is really up for the challenge and that the hope and change he promised to America do come to fruition...otherwise the electorate will be very disillusioned...

Oh, and NativeMinnow, I heard Obama is going to cancel all research on fruitflies... :)
