Information on Moses Sweet (not my direct ancestor but a 5th great uncle)
We're guessing that Moses' mother was a child of Scottish-American Loyalists and his father was English.

All census records indicate that Moses was born in Canada. The 1880 census indicates that his parents were born in Massachusetts, whereas census records on Wait Sweet indicate that he was born either in Canada or Vermont.
Arrived in what would become Linn Grove in 1866, and built a lumber mill, which was the first business whereupon Linn Grove would be founded.
According to census records, he was a farmer through 1870.
1880 Federal Census says Moses ran a "grist mill".
In Barnes, Buena Vista County with Nancy in 1885.
Reported to have died in a cabin west of Sioux Rapids, ca. 1889.
Perhaps he was living with his son John (and Marietta and Elva) at the time.

Francis Archibald (daughter of John Archibald and Elizabeth Teed) was born 17 Dec 1795 in Digby, Digby, NS, Canada3, and died 09 Dec 1861 in Northville, La Salle, IL, USA3. She married Wait Sweet on 1808 in York, ON, Canada3, son of John Wait Sweet.

More About Francis Archibald:
Date born 2: 1795, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Died 2: 1861, La Salle Co. , Illinois.
----
Scottish: from a Scottish personal name, Archibald, of Anglo-Norman French and (ultimately) Continental Germanic origin (see Archambault). In the Highlands of Scotland it was taken as an Anglicized equivalent of the Gaelic personal name Gille Easbaig ‘servant of the bishop’ (see Gillespie), probably because of the approximate phonetic similarity between Arch(i)bald and easbaig. Both Archibald and Gillespie are personal names much favored among Clan Campbell.

----
Born in Minx Cove, Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada on 17 Nov 1795 to John Archibald and Elizabeth Teed. Frances married Wait Sweet and had 14 children. She passed away on 9 Dec 1861 in Northvill, La Salle, Illinois, USA.

----
English (most common in the West Country): nickname from Middle English swete ‘sweet’, ‘pleasant’, ‘agreeable’. The Old English bynames Swet(a) (masculine) and Swete (feminine) derived from this word survived into the early Middle English period, and may also be sources of the surname.
