Oldest Graduated

I haven't edited the photos yet, but here is a quick one...I need a faster lens for indoor shots because my current lens doesn't have a wide enough aperture for good indoor shots...
Congratulations K!

Groups rush to preserve WWII vets' memories

The following contains reference to a blatant stereotype that I know isn't true...but it is the first thing that came to mind when I saw this article on MSN.com.

Groups rush to preserve WWII vets' memories

Shouldn't they have done that when they were younger and their memory was still intact? ;)

When the law changes...

I just found out today, that the law in Utah recently changed (at least I think it did). Those with a Ph.D. in psychology can now count their predoctoral practicum/internship hours toward the 4,000 required for licensure. I had about 3500 during my first five years of graduate school, 2000 on internship, and 2000 that I just about finished up that are post-doctoral hours. It would have been nice to be able to skip the last year of residency and just take the test and become a psychologist....Oh well, it has been a good experience...

Now I need to apply for licensure, take the EPPP national licensing exam, and I am home free... :)

Zebra and Zoo Both Start with Z...

We took the 4-year-old and the rest of the family to the zoo. My mother-in-law flew in for two birthdays and a graduation within the next two weeks, so she came too. It was a good time. I took the huge lens today and took some close up shots of the animals. I was pretty tired of lugging it around by the end of the day though... Also, my eyeballs are sunburned...either that, or they are red from allergies. When I was in the rainforest part of the zoo taking pictures of birds, someone made a snide comment about the guy with the National Geographic lens. I just ignored them though...

Grandma Great...

I just saw a link to a blog dedicated to my great grandparents on my mother's/grandmother's side. I was thinking of the funny things I remember about Grandma Great (as she had us call her). I remember her teaching us how to make cheese and jam sandwiches. It sounds disgusting, but tastes great. I remember another time she was eating oatmeal. We could see weevil or some type of bugs in the oatmeal and we told her, "Ewwww Grandma!!! There are bug in your oatmeal. She just smiled and said, "It's more fiber" and kept on eating it. I remember helping spring clean and finding out her ceiling in the kitchen was light blue, not gray. It was gray from the wood-burning cooking stove she had in there. I loved how her washer drained out into her garden, watering her flowers. We used to love watching the suds come out. I also loved the old metal pitcher/container that she used for all of her spoons.

I like to eat, I like to eat, green apples and bananas...

My almost 4-year old said a prayer today...

"Heavenly Father, Please bless this day...Please bless that little monkeys won't throw bananas at us.....Jesus Christ Amen." :)

Delusions vs. Religious Beliefs

I did an evaluation with a woman a few years ago who was a Jew of Spanish descent. She believes that she sees dead relatives, speaks with them, receives messages from them, and that they move the things around in her room. She has reportedly learned things about her family from them that were supposed to be family secrets (i.e., her father had an affair before she was born with a specific woman, and this was confirmed by her mother). She feels that everything she does creates signs for what is going to happen, such as she wore blue and white today, then later found out it was Israeli Independence Day. She sounded Schizotypal, but if her "gift" is accepted in her culture, maybe it wouldn't be considered a mental disorder. Apparently other women in the family have the same gift. Maybe she comes from a long family history of Schizotypal Personality Disorder, or maybe this is a cultural issue...I love interesting cases like this. They are much more fun than the 'run-of-the-mill' evaluations.

Do any of you know about Jews from Spain and any special gifts of clairvoyance/mediums?

FamilySearchIndexing.org

Our Stake President has made a goal for our stake to index 1 million names from various government records. This will allow people to seach for ancestors via the internet instead of microfiche. I guess 50 million names have been done so far. I started last Sunday and have completed 400 names (about 10 census sheets). It is quite interesting to see the census pages and see what families were like in the 1860s and 1870s. Also, the church has prioritized these particular files because they contain the first records when African Americans were listed by name on the census. Before, they were just listed by age, race, and sex. This will help African Americans better search their ancestors. It has been fun, and I encourage everyone to try it.

The Paranoid Aren't Always Delusional...

I have an evaluation I will be conducting to find out if a person is delusional or not. The person has a history of alcoholism and is convinced that his/her brother is responsible for his/her mother's death. The examinee claims to have "documented evidence" which I will have to review. These are the kinds of evaluations I love to do. They require a bit of sleuthing to try and get to the bottom of what is really going on. Although it is likely this person actually is delusional, or that she has developed Korsakoff's Syndrome through her years of alcohol abuse, it is also possible that she is telling the truth. It reminds me of a Cold Case show I watched (the true stories, not the fictionalized ones) where a woman was in and out of jails and mental health institutions her whole life. She always told a story of her mother killing her older sister, tying children to chairs, locking kids in the closet for days at at time, and killing another sister. Everyone assumed she was delusional and she was prescribed heavy antipsychotics to help her symptoms decrease. Turns out in the end, she was telling the truth and those two murders were finally solved. I will have to see how this evaluations turns out... :)
