Swamped... :)

I have literally been swamped with psychological evaluations over the past month or two. It is good because it is always good to have work. However, it has led me to finish reports at a much slower pace because I have been spending more time administering tests for new referrals. Also, when I do testing for Cirque Lodge, or sometimes for DCFS, they want them back within a specified period. In order to not lose those contracts, I have to do those reports first, which puts the other reports farther behind. It has been difficult to stay on top of everything. It's like they say, "When it rains, it pours!" Of course, I will miss this in the Summer when business slows down...

Houston Rockets Man Up...

I thought the Rockets were done...I thought the Jazz would close them out at home on Saturday. I was wrong. They are very much alive and played great defense in the 4th quarter last night... :(

Happy Spring!!!

What not to say to your twin daughter...

The other day we took the twins to Red Lobster for their birthday dinner. They were so excited to let the waiter know it was their birthday. They informed him they were twins and he acted surprised and said, "No way...really?" because B has gained about 30 lbs more than A. I was thinking it would be funny if someone said, "You guys are really twins? Or are you triplets and she ate the other one?" :)

Bachelor no more...

We had dinner with my good friend Ronald Y. the last night. He and his fiance came over and we invited them to stay for dinner. Afterwards, we went to his new home he purchased in South Jordan. It is a beautiful home and reinforced in my mind that I chose the wrong profession. :)

They had also come over to file a formal complaint with my wife. Apparently a woman that used to date him is convinced that God told her she was supposed to marry him. She keeps harassing him, sends texts, begs to have him come over alone and give her a blessing, etc. His fiance's tires were slashed at work the other day and they thought that she might have had something to do with it. Also, someone followed them to their new house from work the other day. They got the license number, and chased the kid down and got his name, but that was weird to them. So, after my wife had opened up a case for telephone harrassment, the texts started coming. They texted scriptures about how the persecuted will end up in heaven and how conflict is of the devil. Ironic, given that she is the one sending the nasty texts and messages. Ron doesn't even call back or text back. So, after the third text, my wife called back and this ex-girlfriend answers the phone, said the phone belonged to Andrew, and said she didn't think he would text things like that. As she was telling us Andrew's last name, he made her hang up the phone. My wife called him back to discuss the telephone harrassment and to ask him him to stop so that charges would not have to be filed. He became very belligerant, condescending, defensive, and said he would not talk further unless he had "legal council present." I can't believe that 30-something-year-old individuals would be so immature...I hope they stop calling and harrassing Ron and his fiance.

Oh, and his fiance is from where my parents currently live and she knows lightning strikes...

Higher Prices on Ebay...

Well, to combat the rising Ebay/Paypal fees, I have begun to raise the prices on my photography on Ebay...The old inventory will remain at the old prices, but my newer work will reflect a higher price.
I have been thinking about raising my prices ever since one of the psychiatrists at work bought an 11x14 photo of a rainbow trout from me. I told her the print would cost $15, but when she saw the print, she asked me sign it and paid me a $100 bill. She told me she was a connoisseur of art and did not part with her money easily. She told me I had good work and needed to charge what it was worth. So, I am starting to take her advice...I guess I will see how it works out...

White pelicans are back in town...I think they look so prehistoric with their strange bumps on their beaks...they look like dinosaurs when they fly...

Real Estate Presentation...

My boss presented a seminar to a group of real estate agents...It was about how to work at your peak level or "Peak Performance." It went well, and the real estate agents seemed quite interested in the neurofeedback part of the presentation...check out the following video to show what neurofeedback can do to improve performance...

I guess I have to quit...

I received a phone call from a lady who is experiencing some moderate to severe neurocognitive deficits. She did not like a phrase I used in my report and called me up to lambast me for it. She basically told me that I called her a liar, that I had no empathy for anyone, and that I had no business being a clinical psychologist. I guess I should just throw my 22 years of schooling down the tube and quit...anyone know any good careers?

This is what I wrote:

Unknown Etiology of Existing Cognitive Deficits
It is unknown what is responsible for ******'s current cognitive limitations. She reported that her IQ has dropped nearly 2 standard deviations since she was tested in 2003. However, this seems unlikely and no evidence was presented to verify this report. Nevertheless, regardless of how many points her IQ has deteriorated, it is clear that she is experiencing serious cognitive deficits that interfere with her ability to work and with other areas of her life.

Joseph B. Wirthlin & Henry B. Eyring...

My two favorite conference talks so far were the ones by Joseph B. Wirthlin and Henry B. Eyring...
I liked what Elder Wirthlin had to say about how the church needs people that are different....I think a lot of people fall away because they feel they don't fit in...I really like the stories that Elder Eyring tells and how he almost always becomes emotional as he is telling them...He strikes me as an extremely humble and "down-to-earth" person.

Soda no more....

I decided a few days ago to give up soda...I think it is partly responsible for my weight gain. Even though I was drinking diet soda, I would often purchase snacks at the same time. Also, the secretary at work said she saw on the news that diet sodas increase cravings for carbohydrates. Also, they contain aspertame which has been associated with Alzheimer's Disease. I was also spending over $100 per month on soda, and probably at least that much on snacks. I thought I would be less able to focus and concentrate at work after giving up caffeine, but I have noticed my mind is clearer and I have been able to concentrate better and get more done...I haven't had soda for a week...hopefully I will continue to abstain. I have lost some water weight since giving up soda and hope to see continued results...

The wrong kind of doctor...

I had a surprise visit from one of my high school friends tonight. For those from our home town in B**** who have a yearbook, he was number 66 on the football team and played right guard while Iplayed left guard. We caught up a bit and then talk turned to work. He apparently makes about 3x as much money as I do and his brother 76 makes even more than that. I thought psychology would be a lucrative business, but it isn't what it used to be. I think if I play my cards right I will eventually make really good money, but I wish I was already there... :)
